Water and Sanitation
The water and sanitation program has been implemented in Silao block (Nalanda) with the support of PHED, Nalanda. Low-cost Toilets were constructed at 1400 households, 06 Anganwadi Centres, and 04 govt. schools. Also did repairing of the hand pump and sensitized people on sanitation and hygiene.
Achievements: – All targeted households have been made aware of sanitation needs and available services. 1400 households get access to toilet facilities.
RCH Programme
Reproductive health awareness program was implemented in 22 villages of Nardiganj block in Nawada district, Bihar during 2003-2005. The program was supported by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GoI, New Delhi through Gram Nirman Mandal. The program’s focus was reducing IMR and MMR, immunization to mothers and children, training to traditional birth attendants (TBA), safe delivery practices, and contraception for population control.
(ii) Promotion of IHM and Homeopathic program was implemented at Nardiganj block in Nawada district, Bihar under the networking of Gram Nirman Mandal (Ayush Mantralaya, GoI). Local communities were mobilized for inclusion with the old health check process and plantation of medicinal plants.
Achievements: In 22 villages of the project area, Institutional deliveries increased and people started adopting family planning. Female sterilization and vasectomy increased. Family planning resources were used judiciously and child mortality and maternal mortality rate declined. The rate of child marriage declined and Health and hygiene improved.
Piloting Maternal Death Review
The program was implemented in 2014 at Khijasarai, Mohra and Atri blocks in Gaya district with the support of UNICEF/ BVHA. Under this program ASHA, Anganwadi Sewika, PRIs, and SHGs were sensitized on mortality rates of pregnant mothers and safety measures, immunization to pregnant mothers, health care till safe delivery, food and nutrition requirements to pregnant mothers, etc. Formed MMR committees at PHC level and obtained mother death data till 45 days of delivery. Conducted review meetings at the district level and sensitized on minimizing pregnant mothers’ deaths.
Achievements : – ASHA, ANM, AWW, SHGs, and social workers were made aware of pregnant women’s nutritional and medical facilities during the pregnancy period. Institutional deliveries have increased. As a result, maternal mortality and child mortality rate have come down.
Awareness on PRI
SMC and Pri members of the project area were made aware of their work and responsibilities and awareness was created among them about the proper functioning of the school.
Achievements : SMCs and Pri Member get activated in 35 Schools SMC Meetings are held in the schools every month and meeting minutes are kept in the schools.
Mental Health Development Program me
Mental health and development program was implemented at 04 blocks Hilsa, Karaipasauri, Nagarnausa, and Tharthari blocks in Nalanda district in Bihar under the networking of NBJK, Hzb and supported by Basic Needs, UK. Under this program, 350 mental and epilepsy patients were identified. They were provided medical treatments and families were mobilized for their care. Advocated for the establishment of a Mental Hospital in Bihar and submitted a note to Government. Conducted signature campaigns for treatment, rehabilitation, and employment of mental patients. 125 mental health patients (families) have been provided seed money for self-employment. 250 mental health patients benefitted.
Achievements : The entire community was sensitized for the care of mental patients. Mental health has now emerged as a social agenda and major priority among the villagers. A good number of disabled also received benefits through medical and other services as well.
Single women empowerment program me
This program was jointly implemented by JAN under the National Level Networking- Ekal Nari Sangathan, Astha, Rajasthan, and AJWS, UK at 10 blocks of 06 districts namely Nalanda, Gaya, Arwal, Jehanabad, Bhojpur, and Patna. The program focused on the elimination of social and cultural differences, convergence with govt. schemes and programs, leadership, and skill development of single women. 25,000 single women including the widow, divorcee women were organized in groups, developed their leadership skills, and converged with govt. social security schemes and support to get property rights in parent’s assets.
Achievements : 2500 women leaders were promoted across the state through networking. 50 local committees have been established and strengthened. More than 600 resources persons at the state level facilitated. Large networking was established at national and state levels. More than 5000 single women were organized.
Disability
Supported by Jiv Daya Foundation (USA), JAN distributed Tricycle to facilitate the movement of 54 disabled people in Hilsa block in Nalanda district in Bihar helping them in better access to their livelihood and other daily basic activities. The Tricycle has been distributed in the presence of Mr. Anil Kumar of Jiv Daya Foundation, Block Pramukh, Govt. officials, and other notable persons of the local community.
Achievements : With the help of tricycle, Disabled people were facilitated in their physical movements connected with employment and started doing income generation work.
Environment Preservation, Disaster Mgt. and Pollution Control
JAN Has been Implemented a community awareness program on “Environment Preservation, Disaster Mgt. and Pollution Control ” at 25 villages of Hilsa block, Nalanda district.
Achievements : Sensitized more than 26,000 community people on the importance of plantation and forest, plantation of fruits plants, breaking of deforestation, preparation of vermin compost, use of natural manure, health, and sanitation, garbage management, etc. The work has positive impacts as people stopped cutting off old trees and started plantations on their own and public lands. Govt. Jal, Jeevan, and Hariyali program were strengthened.
